a town of the hundred of Toesland, in the county of Huntingdon, sixty-one miles from London, on the great road to York. At this place there is a fine palace, the country residence of the bishop of Lincoln. The inhabitants amounted in 1801 to 869, in 1811 to 914, and in 1821 to 973.
