bishop of Belley, was born at Paris in 1582. He was author of a number of pious romances, adapted to the taste of his time, and other theological works, to the amount of about two hundred volumes. His definition of politics is remarkable. Ars non tam regendi quam fallendi homines, The art not so much of governing as of deceiving mankind. He was deficient in judgment, but possessed a remarkable memory. He was also distinguished for his zeal, and the fervour with which he attacked the abuses of his time. He died in 1652.
