Volume 6 · 45 words · 1842 Edition

Caparison, the covering or clothing laid over a horse, especially a sumpter horse, or horse of state. The word is Spanish, caparazon, being probably an augmentative of capa, a cloak. Anciently the caparasons were a kind of iron armour, wherewith horses were covered in battle.
