a city of the intendancy of Calata-nissetta, in the island of Sicily. It stands on the high mountain of Ena, in the centre of the island, in a healthy and moderately fertile district. In the neighbourhood are extensive salt mines, which furnish the vicinity with that commodity. It is a walled place, in which are the remains of the celebrated temple of Ceres and Proserpine. The inhabitants are about 11,000.
