a town of Hindustan, in the district of North Coimbetoor, situated on the Cavery, which, during the rainy season, is here a wide stream. The fort was built by a polygar, who ruled over a large territory in the neighbourhood. The suburbs contain about a hundred houses, with the ruins of a much greater number; and the place being an entrepot of trade between the countries above and below the Ghauts, has a custom-house. It is 86 miles south-east from Seringapatam. Long. 77. 55. E. Lat. 11. 49. N.
