or CHAMOUNY, a valley in Savoy, near to Geneva, in the province of Faussigny, and kingdom of Sardinia. It is the longest and most interesting of all the valleys of Savoy. It is at the foot of Mont Blanc, excessively hot in the summer, and of great coldness in winter. It is 3300 feet above the level of the sea, and is the most advantageous place for taking a view of Mont Blanc. It is visited by those who wish to see the glaciers, and the access to it from Geneva is easy, the distance being about forty English miles. The village of Chamouny contains about 1500 inhabitants.
