a town of Hindustan, situated at the extremity of the Gujerat peninsula, and so difficult of access, owing to an almost impenetrable jungle, and rough rocky ground, that the ruler has nearly withdrawn from his allegiance. This place furnishes men to the piratical vessels which prey upon the trade of the Indian seas, and it receives a share of the plunder. A treaty was concluded in 1807 with the chief, by which he agreed to relinquish piracy.
