a large manufacturing parish of the Eccleshall west riding of Yorkshire, in the wapentake of Strafforth and Tickhill, 167 miles from London and five from Sheffield, with the trade of which place it is very much connected. The population amounted in 1801 to 5114, in 1811 to 5805, in 1821 to 7163, and in 1831 to 7911.
