or New Guernsey, the principal island in the group called Queen Charlotte's Islands, in the South Pacific Ocean. It is about 54 miles in length, and from 20 to 32 in breadth. The country in general is mountainous, covered with woods, and intersected with numerous valleys and small rivers. The inhabitants are brave, vigorous, and active, but treacherous and dishonest.
