a term of relation applied to the surface or outside of a body, or that part which appears or presents itself to the eye or touch, in contradistinction to internal.

EXTERNAL is also used to signify anything that is without a man, or that is not within himself, particularly in his mind; in which sense we say, external objects, external nature, and the like.
