or FARBABAD, a town of Persia, in the province of Mazenderan, situated on the southern shore of the Caspian Sea, at the mouth of a river. Its population, formerly computed at 16,000, consisted principally of Armenians and Georgians, who are represented as having been lively, active, and industrious. The neighbouring country is fertile, producing sugar, cotton, and silk; and the inhabitants carry on a trade in rice, salt-fish, and pottery. It is 126 miles west of Astarabad, and 270 north of Isfahan. Long. 53° 12'. E. Lat. 35° 56'. N.
