a city of the province of Catania, in the island of Sicily. It is situated on the summit of a lofty insulated hill, abounds in churches and monasteries, contains 6118 inhabitants, and produces near it much saffron and good wine. It was the birth-place of the celebrated historian Diodorus Siculus.
