FLOOD is also used in speaking of the tide. When the water is at the lowest, it is called ebb; when rising, young flood; when at the highest, high flood; when beginning to fall, ebb water.

Flood-mark, the mark which the sea makes on the shore at flowing water and the highest tide. It is also called high-water mark.
