a city of the province Cunio, in the kingdom of Sardinia. It is situated on the river Stura, is fortified, and contains a cathedral, five other churches, six monasteries, two numeraries, and 14,000 inhabitants. It is a place of consideration, from its extensive silk manufactures, and from its tanneries. There is also much trade in wine, corn, hemp, and other products of the soil.
