a district of Bengal, containing about a hundred and fifty square miles, but formerly much more extensive, as it not only embraced great part of the district of Dinagepore, but also extended across the Brahmaputra river, and included the small district of Carrybary; it is pleasantly situated on the western bank of the Currinya river, and formerly carried on a considerable trade with Bootan for Tangan horses, musk, &c. fortress of Hindustan, in the province of Gurjorat. It is the capital of the above district, situated on the borders of the extensive salt morass of the Run, which affords good pasturage for horses, and divides Gurjorat from Cutch. It serves as a barrier fortress to the Run; a strong garrison being always kept in it by the Jam of Noanagur.
