Volume 10 · 92 words · 1842 Edition

a town of the county of Huntingdon, in the hundred of Toesland, fifty-eight miles from London. It stands in a damp situation on the river Ouse, and is said to have been once a very large city. It is now only remarkable for the excellence of its soil and agriculture. It is a corporate town, but sends no members to parliament, and is so near to Huntingdon as to need no market. The inhabitants amounted in 1801 to 1573, in 1811 to 1779, in 1821 to 1953, and in 1831 to 2146.
