a market-town of South Wales, in the county of Brecon, 157 miles from London. It stands on a hill overlooking the valley in which the river Wye flows, where are remains of an ancient castle, which have been converted into a modern dwelling. There is a tolerable market held on Saturday. The inhabitants amounted in 1801 to 1170, in 1811 to 1341, in 1821 to 1649, and in 1831 to 1959.
