a market-town of the county of Wilts, in the hundred of Kemnery, but a part of it is within the county of Berks. It is sixty-eight miles from London, on the road to Bath, and is watered by the river Kennet. It has some trade by the Kennet and Avon Canal, both with London and with Bristol. There is a market, which is held on Wednesday. The church is a very ancient building.
