or Charkow, a city of the province Ukraine, in Russia, the capital of a circle of the same name. It is situated on the Donetz, where that river receives the waters of the Lepanka and the Charkow. It contains 1532 houses, and 15,000 inhabitants. It is the seat of a university founded in 1813, with twenty-five professors, and 250 students.
