a market-town of South Wales, in the county of Carmarthen and hundred of Perfydd, 202 miles from London, situated on the river Towy, which abounds in fish, especially salmon. It has a well-supplied market on Saturday. The population of the town amounted in 1801 to 647, in 1811 to 776, in 1821 to 1019, and in 1831 to 1268; but the whole parish at the last census contained 5149 inhabitants.
