a city, the capital of a circle of that name, in the Prussian government of Cologne. It is situated on the river Warge, and contains 808 houses, with 3920 inhabitants. It is a manufacturing place of great celebrity, producing annually more than 100,000 hides for sole leather from its tanneries, much cotton twist from its spinning mills, some very good fine cloth and cassimeres, and also some writing paper and pressing paper.
