a city of Spain, in the province of Catalonia. It is built on the banks of the river Llobregat, near its confluence with the Cardoner. Its inhabitants are enriched by extensive manufactures of silk goods; and near it are several mills for making gunpowder, which is produced in great quantities. It was in this city that Ignatius Loyola resided, and projected the establishment of the celebrated order of the Jesuits. It contains 8900 inhabitants.
