or COLOBARSIANS, an ancient sect in the church, forming a branch of the Valentinians. St Irenaeus says at large of the leader of this sect, Marcus, who, it seems, was reputed a great magician. The Marcosians had many apocryphal books which they held as canonical, and out of which they picked several idle fables touching the infancy of Jesus Christ. Many of these fables are still in credit amongst the Greek monks.
MARSDEN, a town of the county of Kent, in the lathe of Scray, and hundred of its own name, forty-one miles from London. It stands on the river Twist, and was formerly more considerable, having had a market, which is now discontinued. The population amounted in 1801 to 1660, in 1811 to 1904, in 1821 to 2051, and in 1831 to 2109.
