an arrondissement of the department of the Lozère in France, 731 square miles in extent. It contains seven cantons, divided into sixty-two communes, containing 48,250 inhabitants. The chief city of the same name is situated on a hill on the left bank of the Lot. It is ill-built, with narrow and crooked streets, and poor old houses.
