an arrondissement of the department of Aveyron, in France, 806 miles in extent. It consists of nine cantons, divided into seventy-nine communes, and contains 51,500 inhabitants. The capital is the city of the same name situated on the right bank of the Tarn, where the Dourbie falls into that stream. The surrounding country abounds with fruit, especially almonds and grapes.
