a village of the county of Surrey, in the hundred of Wallington, seven miles from London. It is pleasantly situated on the river Wandle, a stream remarkable for its trouts, and for the number of mills turned by it within a short distance. The population amounted in 1801 to 3466, in 1811 to 4175, in 1821 to 4453, and in 1831 to 4387.
