a township of the parish of Bourton-on-the-Hill, in the hundred of Westminster, and county of Gloucester, eighty-two miles from London, on the great road to Birmingham by Oxford. The ancient foss-way from the west to the north of England runs through this town. The population amounted in 1801 to 829, in 1811 to 928, in 1821 to 1015, and in 1831 to 1331.
