a town and district of Hindustan, in the province of Agra. The town is situated on the south-eastern side of the Sinde river, and is of considerable antiquity, having been conquered by the Mahommedans as early as 1251. It afterwards recovered its independence, and in 1509 was again under the government of a Hindu prince, from whom it was subsequently taken. This place was, in 1810, surrendered to Scindia. Long. 78°12'. E. Lat. 25°41'. N. The district is situated principally between the 25th and 26th degrees of north latitude, and is a woody and hilly country, of a rich soil in many parts, and extremely productive. The Sinde is the principal river, and the chief towns are Narwar, Collarass, and Shepoory. The lion has been found in this district.
