a very large town, and the capital of a district of the same name, surrounded by a stone wall of no great strength, with round towers and a ditch. It is situated on the river Nagne, which is supposed by the natives to possess some qualities peculiarly favourable for the dyeing of cloths, for which, as well as the manufacture thereof, this place is celebrated. The chief of Noanagur coins money in his own name. His subjects are addicted to piracy; but in the year 1808 he entered into a treaty with the British to refrain from this practice, and not to plunder any ships which might be driven on their coast by distress.
