a town of the county of Kent, in the hundred of Toltingtough, and lathe of Aylesford, twenty miles from London, on the road to Dover. It is situated on a chalk hill rising from the south bank of the Thames, and commanding an extensive view of the river, and of the county of Essex beyond it. Great quantities of lime are made from chalk, and the flints collected are prepared for fire-arms. Northfleet has now no market. The population amounted in 1801 to 1910, in 1811 to 2031, in 1821 to 1864, and in 1831 to 2124.
