a city of the Austrian kingdom of Bohemia, the capital of a circle of the same name, which extends over 1474 square miles, comprehending fifteen cities, fourteen towns, 669 villages, and 28,500 houses. The city stands at the junction of the rivers Bradawta and Beauranta, and contains 546 houses, and about 8000 inhabitants, who conduct some cloth manufactories, and considerable internal trade in hardware made from mines of iron in its neighbourhood. Near to them are also extensive alum works, both belonging to the city.
