a Greek historian, born in Cæsarea. He Procopius acquired great reputation by his works in the reign of Justinian, and was secretary to Belisarius during all the wars carried on by that general in Persia, Africa, and Italy. Having at length become senator, he obtained the title of illustrious, and was made praetor of Constantinople.
