a city of Poland, in the province of Lublin, and the circle of that name. It stands on the right bank of the Vistula, over which is a ferry where the roads on both sides are concentrated. It is in a beautiful situation, rising above and overlooking the river. It contains 430 houses, with 3200 inhabitants, who carry on some woollen and other manufactures. It is distinguished by the magnificent palace adjoining to it, belonging, as well as the city and the surrounding district, to the celebrated family of Prince Czartoryski. It is a building of noble construction, having an extensive park laid out in the English style, with elegant drives and walks, and many beautiful trees. In the park is a museum of curiosities, and in the castle a curious and valuable library of 60,000 volumes, and many manuscripts illustrative of the ancient history of Poland. Long. 21. 41. E.
