a town and district of Hindustan, province of Delhi, in the district of Bareily, situated on the banks of the Gorilla river. This town and district was, by the peace of Lahdong, in 1774, secured to Fyzoola Khan, a Rohilla chief. His eldest son succeeded at his death. He was afterwards assassinated by his second son, who seized the throne; but the latter was soon afterwards expelled by a British force under Sir Ralph Abercromby, and his treasures seized, amounting in value to Ls40,000, and delivered up to the nabob of Oude, who presented the British army with eleven lacs of rupees for their services. The country was in a highly cultivated and flourishing condition under the just administration of its native ruler Fyzools Khan; but it quickly decayed, and was reduced to a deplorable condition under the extortions of the British, to whom it was ceded in 1801.
