an island belonging to the kingdom of Denmark, in the Cattegat, between Zealand and Jutland. It is forty-five square miles, or 28,800 acres, in extent, and is divided into six parishes, containing 2400 inhabitants. It is of moderate fertility, producing both corn, butter, and cheese, and occupying a part of the people in the fisheries.
