a city of the kingdom of Bavaria, in the circle of the Rezat, situated on a river of the same name. It is the seat of the provincial courts of law, and of the boards of administration. It contains one reformed and two Lutheran churches, two Catholic chapels, and a Jews' synagogue, with 650 houses, and 6960 inhabitants, who are employed in various manufactures, principally in spinning cotton and making hosiery, but also in producing cutlery, paper, and toys of wood and of ivory.
