city in Denmark, the capital of the see of the same name. It is situated on the Lymfords, at the spot where the Oosterne joins it; it is tolerably fortified; contains a cathedral and several other public buildings; and in 1847 the inhabitants amounted to 7500. There are manufactories of sugar, soap, snuff, chocolate, and scythes, with several distilleries; but the woollen and hosiery trades which formerly existed are nearly extinct. The entrance to the harbour is such as to require vessels drawing more than ten feet of water to lighten before they approach the city. The chief exports are herrings, corn, wool, hides, tar, tallow, and corn spirits. It is in Lat. 57. 2. 57. N., and Long. 9. 56. 36. E.
