a measurer of solar rays. It is a thermometer with a large bulb, filled with a dark blue fluid, and is enclosed in a box, the sides of which are blackened, and the whole covered with a thick plate of glass. It is the invention of Sir John Herschel; and is described in the Edinburgh Journal of Science for 1825. The zero is adjusted by a screw attached to the bulb.
