a small town in the wapentake of Claro, in the West Riding of Yorkshire. It is on the river Ure, and is supposed to be the ancient Isurina Brigantia. Near it are some remains of a druidical temple. It formerly returned two members to parliament, but has been disfranchised. Population of parish in 1851, 2438.
