Washington, an American historical painter, distinguished for his excellence in colouring. His picture of "The Dead Man resuscitated by Elisha's Bones," obtained the L.220 prize of the British Institution in 1811. His first wife was a sister of Dr Channing. He was born in South Carolina in 1779, and died in Massachusetts in 1843.
