a fine, deep red ochre, very heavy, and of a dense yet friable structure, and rough, dusty surface. It adheres very firmly to the tongue, has scarcely any taste, and seems analogous to the ore of iron called in England Red Redde. It is the Sil Atticum of the ancients. It is found in immense quantities in many parts of Spain, and is used at Seville to colour snuff.
