a god worshipped by the Japanese, who has many temples erected to him in the Island of Japan, of which the principal is at Jeddo. The Japanese have such a confidence in their idol Amida, that they hope to attain eternal felicity by the frequent invocation of his name. One of the figures of this idol is preserved at Rome.—See Kampfer, 243.
