Volume 2 · 43 words · 1860 Edition

(Ἀναιτίς), an Armenian divinity, whom the Greeks sometimes identified with their own Artemis and Aphrodite. From the nature of her worship, she appears to have represented the creative powers of nature. Her name is variously written—Anaitis, Anea, Anecitis, Tanaïs, or Nanaea.—Vide Plin. xxxiii.
