an arrondissement in the department of the Upper Pyrenees, in France, extending over 523 square miles, or 334,698 acres. It is divided into five cantons, and subdivided into 99 communes. Pop. in 1851, 42,558. The chief city of the arrondissement, of the same name, is situated in the beautiful valley of Lavedan, on the banks of the Gave d’Azun.
