a town in Albania, in Lat. 40.7. N. Long. 20.13. E. Here the late Ali Pasha built a strong castle capable of lodging 5000 men. The town is estimated by Holland and Hobhouse to contain 20,000 inhabitants. Till 1811, it enjoyed a sort of rude independence. It is now in possession of the Turks.
