or ATYS, in Greek Mythology, a beautiful shepherd of Phrygia, beloved by Cybele, who emasculated himself during a fit of madness into which he had been thrown by that goddess in revenge for his infidelity to her. The story is related by Ovid, Fast. iv. 221, and differently by other writers. In Pausanias (vii. 17, § 5) may be found the story of Atys killed by a wild boar.

Latin chief, son of Alba, and father of Capys, Aubagne from whom Augustus was said to be descended on the mother's side. This name was also borne by a son of Crusus, slain by Adrastus.
