seaport town, and capital of the county of the same name, in the state of Massachusetts, North America. It is situated on the south side of a bay of the same name, which opens into Cape Cod Bay. In 1848 it had 64,309 tons of shipping, of which about 30,000 tons were employed in the coasting trade, and about 16,000 in the cod and mackerel fisheries. Pop. 4301.
