LOUIS FRANÇOIS JOSEPH DE LA, a learned French historian and antiquary, born at Tournay in 1688. Besides various learned papers contributed to the Memoirs of the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres, of which he was a member, he published, in 1729, Memoires pour servir à l'Histoire de France et de Bourgogne. He also contributed many articles to the edition of Moreri's Dictionary published in 1724, and was concerned in various other works. He died in 1738, whilst preparing a dictionary of Greek and Roman antiquities.
