Volume 4 · 75 words · 1860 Edition

a village of Cisalpine Gaul, situated between Verona and Cremona. From the account given by Tacitus, Cluverius conjectures that the ancient Bedriacum stood in the place where the city of Canneto now stands. Here the army of the Emperor Otho was defeated A.D. 69, by the united forces of Cæcina and Valens, generals of Vitellius. A few months later the Vitellian forces were defeated at the same place by Antonius Primus, the lieutenant of Vespasian.
