a river of Hindustan which rises in the mountains to the north of Poona, and flowing S.E., passes within thirty miles of that city. It is one of the principal tributaries of the Krishna, which it joins near the town of Kadloor in the dominions of the Nizam. The Hindus regard it as a sacred river. The length of its course is about 510 miles.
